Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Internship

Our comprehensive internship program offers a unique, hands-on learning experience in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation. This unpaid position is designed for highly motivated individuals looking to advance their clinical skills and knowledge in a specialized setting. You will have the opportunity to rotate between our cutting-edge Rehabilitation Center and our dynamic Ambulatory Equine Medicine service, benefiting from the guidance and mentorship of our expert team.

Training and Development

Our detailed onboarding includes online training, one-on-one coaching with our senior clinicians, and skill evaluations to ensure you get the most out of your time with us. You will gain experience in a variety of areas, including:

Advanced diagnostics (radiography, ultrasound, etc.)

Thorough physical examinations

Equine injection techniques

Biomechanics and anatomy

Effective client communication

Professional leadership

Rotational Responsibilities

Rehabilitation Rotation: Work directly with horses under veterinary supervision, conducting physical exams and diligently monitoring treatment plans. You will also participate in daily staff meetings and morning rounds to assess in-house boarding cases and assist with therapies.

Equine Medicine Rotation: Shadow a rotating veterinarian to refine your skills in lameness exams, diagnostic imaging, injections, and general medicine cases. You will also practice documenting appointments and communicating with clients, ensuring accurate record-keeping.

Additional Opportunities

Mentorship: Help teach and guide visiting externs and technicians.

Continuing Education: Participate in our weekly Journal Club.

Surgical Experience: Assist in surgical procedures 3-5 times per month.

Optional Business Component: For those interested in the business side of veterinary medicine, you can gain experience in operations, marketing, professional development, and finance (3-8 hours/week).
