Equine Sports Medicine Veterinarian

The Equine Sports Medicine Veterinarian is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating high-performing equine athletes on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will enhance the performance abilities of equine patients and create comprehensive rehabilitation plans to help them reach their peak potential.

About Our Practice Located on a beautiful 23-acre facility in Ocala, Florida, we are a premier veterinary practice specializing in sports medicine and rehabilitation for horse and canine athletes of all disciplines. Veterinarian Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence: Develop and implement comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plans for all musculoskeletal injuries in equine patients.

General Medicine: Handle general medicine cases at the practice or refer them to another veterinarian within the practice when necessary.

Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service by responding to client inquiries and concerns in a timely manner, and conducting follow-up calls to ensure optimal recovery and satisfaction.

Practice Operations: Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure the schedule is managed efficiently, production targets are met, and work-life balance is achieved.

Continuing Education: Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills by regularly participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and attending our weekly Journal Club.

Mentorship: Serve as a mentor to interns and students, fostering their professional growth and development.

Representation: Represent the company at various equine events, such as horse shows and charity events.

Financial Oversight: Monitor personal production and accurately track mileage to ensure timely and correct commission and mileage payments.

Competencies & Qualifications

Clinical: Solid knowledge in lameness evaluation, with proven expertise and efficiency in diagnosing musculoskeletal issues and performing joint injections.

Communication: Excellent communication skills, displaying emotional intelligence, empathy, and a collaborative approach with both clients and executive staff.

Technical: Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets (Google Suite and Microsoft).

Professional: Upholds high ethical standards, demonstrates a professional demeanor, and has a willingness to engage in continuing education.

Education & Experience:

DVM, VMD, or a compatible U.S. validated degree is required.

A minimum of five years of experience in private practice or academia.

Sports Medicine Board Certification or ISELP certification is a plus but not required, as the company will pay for courses.
